And I’m about to dive into this series for the first time
So I just found out that Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is dropping on PS5 this August 12th, and I’m pretty excited about it. As soon as I heard the news, I immediately added both Hellblade games to my PlayStation wishlist – this is going to be my first time experiencing the series.

Why This is Actually a Big Deal
Here’s the thing – the original Hellblade was actually a PS4 exclusive when it first came out back in 2017. So when the sequel launched as an Xbox exclusive last year, it felt weird not being able to play it on PlayStation. But now it’s coming home, and I couldn’t be happier.
I’ll be real with you – I know absolutely nothing about this series. I’ve seen some gorgeous screenshots and trailers and heard it’s supposed to be really good, but never actually played either game. So this PS5 release is basically my entry point into the series.

What’s New in the PS5 Version
This isn’t just a lazy port either. The PS5 version is getting the full treatment with 60fps performance mode (thank god), DualSense haptic feedback, and optimizations for both regular PS5 and PS5 Pro. Coming from someone who’s never experienced the series before, I’m curious to see how those controller vibrations are going to make Senua’s psychological journey even more intense.
There’s also this “Enhanced” update that’s hitting all platforms on the same day, so even Xbox and PC players are getting new stuff.
The Pricing Situation
Here’s where it gets interesting for newcomers like me. The standard edition is $49.99, which is actually pretty nice considering most new games are $69.99 these days. There’s also a deluxe edition for $69.99 that includes both Hellblade 2 AND an optimized PS5 version of the first game.
For someone who’s never touched the series, I’m going with the standard edition at $49.99. The deluxe edition includes both games for $69.99, but I’m planning to start with Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice first and then move on to the sequel.

What Am I Getting Myself Into?
From what I understand, this series is heavy. Like, really heavy. It’s set in 9th century Iceland with Norse mythology vibes, and it deals with mental health in ways that most games don’t even attempt. The main character, Senua, struggles with psychosis, and apparently the games don’t shy away from that reality.

My Honest Thoughts
I’m going in completely blind here. I don’t know if I’m going to love it or if it’s going to be too intense for me. But I’ve been curious about this series for years, and the fact that I can finally play both games on my PS5 with all the bells and whistles? Yeah, I’m sold.
The reviews have been pretty solid (81 on Metacritic), and even the criticisms don’t really scare me off. If anything, they help set expectations. I’m not expecting God of War combat – I’m expecting something unique and probably a little uncomfortable.
